The Alma was taken to Port Macquarie in April 2001 at a time of change in the Board of Sail & Adventure Ltd. She was not `in survey’, so was in effect a private vessel. The Board’s composition has since completely changed, however its main aims are still the continued preservation of Alma Doepel and the regaining of survey certification.

As the ship is currently "out of survey" she cannot carry passengers, however she is regularly open to the public at Lady Nelson Wharf in Port Macquarie.
