We are Sail & Adventure Limited, a not-for-profit charity with tax deductible status and three decades behind us with a clear focus; providing young people with the opportunity to discover themselves, the value of working with others and the ability to be part of a team of individuals, often with very diverse backgrounds.
Our main purpose is the delivery of 9-day Youth Development Sail Training Voyages. Participants in these voyages include youth at risk, those with disabilities and young emerging leaders in Victoria.
Our mission is to challenge and inspire young people to realise their full personal potential and to make a positive contribution to the wider community through the unique medium of tall ship sail training.
This training develops leadership, resilience, self-belief and teamwork; all factors which enable young people to overcome adversity and foster positive mental health. These training voyages were conducted in the 1980s and 1990s and are scheduled to resume in 2022.
In parallel with youth development sail training, the Alma Doepel provides the opportunity for a range of volunteers to engage with a worthwhile cause and to continue their personal development during both the restoration phase and the ongoing operations of the ship. Some 250 volunteers and 2000 supporters have been part of the Alma Doepel Restoration team.
